Introduction 

Tooele County School District (TCSD) is committed to protecting the privacy and security of personal information. This policy outlines our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information in compliance with Utah's Data Privacy Amendments (HB0444). 

Information Collection 

We do not collect any personal information unless you voluntarily provide it by sending us e-mail, participating in a survey, or completing an online or paper form. Personal information submitted will not be transferred to any non-affiliated third parties unless otherwise stated at the time of collection. When a user submits personally identifiable information, it is used only for the purpose stated at the time of collection. 

Use of Information 

The collected information is used to: 

  • Provide educational services 

  • Communicate with parents and guardians 

  • Maintain student records 

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students 

  • Comply with legal requirements 
     

Student Privacy 

TCSD is committed to protecting the privacy of our students and their families. Full names of students will not be published on the public pages of our website unless they are considered Directory Information under FERPA.  

 If parents do not want their child's Directory Information shared, they must inform TCSD in writing to the Pupil Accounting Specialist within 14 days of the beginning of the school year. 

Images of students are used on the public pages of the site; however, parents must have opted in for public image use in the Registration/Welcome Back Packet. 

Use of Photos and Information 

The TCSD website contains pictures and information about staff, students, buildings, the board of education, and our programs. Use of these photos or information for private, commercial, or political mailings and/or distribution to any outside party is prohibited.

This website may contain links to other sites. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this website. 

Cookies 

A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser that allows the website to “remember” your preferences (such as calendar settings and site bookmarks) on the site from visit to visit, or to maintain your “logged in” status when visiting protected areas. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on our site. This website takes every precaution to protect our users' personal information. Whenever users submit personal information (such as contact info or credit card info) via online forms, registration, or online purchase, upon submission that information is encrypted via the highest level of SSL (Secured Sockets Layer) available. Servers that store personally identifiable information are in a secure environment. Under no circumstances are credit card numbers permanently stored on our website servers. 

Email Privacy and Spam 

The website contains email addresses of faculty and staff. Use of this information for private, commercial, or political mailings and/or distribution to any outside party is prohibited. 

Rights of Individuals 

Individuals have the right to: 

  • Access their personal information 

  • Request correction of inaccurate information 

  • Withdraw consent for data processing 

  • Lodge a complaint with the school district regarding data privacy concerns

We may update this privacy policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will notify individuals of significant changes through appropriate channels.
