Chalk Talk - Spring is in the Air!

By Clint Spindler
It is beginning to look like Spring may be here to stay in the Tooele Valley. While we are officially a little over a month into the spring season, we are seeing the many changes that arrive with this season.
Spring symbolizes rebirth and rejuvenation, as the earth emerges from a restful slumber bursting forth with greenery, warmth, and energy. Our classrooms are much like this nice Spring season as they too experience this same kind of feeling in them. With this fourth quarter and the end of the school year winding down, students can sense a change in the air.

Chalk Talk - Gift Giving

April is the Tooele Education Foundation’s birthday!  Not only is it customary for one celebrating a birthday to receive gifts, but to give gifts.  This wonderful custom lends itself to supporting TEF’s Cause - Our Kids.  The generosity of sponsors and partners affords TEF the opportunity to give “gifts” to Tooele County School District students and staff.  Every dollar donated to TEF directly impacts and enhances public education in Tooele County School District.

2018 Teacher of the Year

Samantha Liptac, 4th grade teacher at Copper Canyon Elementary, was named 2018 Teacher of the Year for Tooele County School District. She strives for students to be goal-oriented and create a learning environment supported by both success and failure. Ms. Liptac is an expert in her field and is always going the extra mile. Thanks for all you do for our students. Congratulations!

The great Utah shakeout

At 10:15 a.m. on April 19, 2018, hundreds of thousands of Utahns will “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” in The Great Utah ShakeOut, the state's largest earthquake drill ever! Tooele County School District students will participate in the earthquake drill to practice "Drop, Cover, and Hold on."

Guest Teacher of the Season

We'd like to recognize Bruce Dangerfield as the guest teacher of the season for his exceptional dedication, positive attitude and outstanding work ethic serving the students and staff of Tooele County School District.

SafeUT app used to help kids in crisis can now be used to report acts of kindness

By Jed Boal, KSL TV
The SafeUT app was designed to help kids deal with crises in their lives at home and at school.
Students have been able to use the app to confidentially report bullying, a potential attacker at their school or a fellow student who is thinking about hurting themselves. They can submit tips or reach a counselor 24/7.
Now, students can also use the SafeUT app to report acts of kindness.

Chalk Talk - Enhancing Teacher Support

By Clint Spindler
One of the best ways Tooele Education Foundation can increase its effectiveness is in how it enhances support to Tooele County School District’s teachers. Last week, I shared that TEF has launched an employee contribution campaign, in cooperation with TCSD, and is developing an unrestricted account through payroll deduction to support classroom teacher and employee project requests. TEF wants to be at the forefront of impacting and empowering TCSD teachers and believes this program will help achieve that aim.
