Director of Counseling and Social Services receives 'Advocate of the Year' award

“In the state of Utah there were about 1,700 youth who used the SafeUT App in December alone,” said Representative Eliason. “Senator Thatcher and I sponsored the legislation to create this life saving app for Utah children several years ago.”

During the award presentation, Oborn expressed her appreciation of Senator Thatcher and Representative Eliason for their support of the life-saving App. In addition, she commended Superintendent Dr. Scott Rogers, for his appreciation and support of the counseling program.

“Part of the reason we have seen a decrease in suicidality is because of the level of commitment seen from the [Tooele County School District,]” said Senator Thatcher. “I have seen a lot of school districts and crisis intervention programs, and have never seen anybody as tireless and committed as Marianne Oborn.”

Tooele County School District was the only school district this year that has seen a decrease in suicidality according to the 2017 Student Health and Risk Prevention Survey data. (
