Leadership Matters - Back to School

This year is a chance for us to begin the 2021-22 school year in a new and refreshing way. Last year was different from any other to date. It was challenging; however, staff, parents, students, and community members accepted the challenge and made it an amazing year. We all came together and supported each other resulting in the best year possible.

What we need to do to make this an awesome year is to exemplify gratitude and kindness. Our students need to experience and live these traits. I am grateful for amazing teachers and staff who do all that is humanly possible to create safe and effective learning environments. I am thankful for parents, our partners, who support the work we do with students. How about our incredible students? I was amazed at how grateful they were during the last year. They were grateful for the opportunity to attend school in person and showed that gratitude through their actions and positivity. I cannot overemphasize the importance of kindness in our schools. I observed and was the recipient of many acts of kindness throughout the past school year. Let’s teach and encourage our students to choose kindness and empathy. Our society needs empathy and compassion now more than ever; we can be the leaders for this.

As we prepare to return to school, let’s be observant and support each other. From providing a new backpack to a student in need, to acts of kindness, we can make a difference. It starts with me and you.
