Tooele Communities that Care launches underage drinking prevention campaign

WHEN: Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 10 a.m.

WHERE: Tooele County School District Building, 92 Lodestone Way, Tooele, UT 84074

*The event is planned to take place outside but will be moved to the board room in the case of inclement weather.

WHO: Speakers will include: Tooele Prevention Coordinator Peter Clegg, Tooele County School District Superintendent Scott Rogers, Tooele City Mayor Debbie Winn, Valley Behavioral Health Executive Julie Rael. Interviews are available upon request.

WHY: Parents are the number one reason kids decide not to drink. Research indicates children are less likely to drink when parents are involved in their lives and when they feel close to their parents. Parents should spend 10-15 minutes with their children, doing what their child wants to do, and be a part of their world. You can find facts about the impacts of underage drinking and how to prevent it here.

ABOUT: ParentsEmpowered.org is a statewide campaign focused on eliminating underage drinking in Utah. Its primary goals are to educate parents about the dangers of underage drinking and provide them with proven skills to communicate with their children about remaining alcohol-free. More information is available at www.ParentsEmpowered.org.
